“Tonight, they're calling the shots.”

How does a 21-year-old songwriter from New Jersey end up behind a bar in New York, famous for anything but her songs? Violet Sanford (Piper Perabo) arrives with a velvet voice and a dream, then takes a job at Coyote Ugly, where the barmaids work the crowd with outrageous antics. David McNally lets her fall in with the bar's boss, Lil (Maria Bello), who sizes Violet up, puts her to work, and decides how far she will push her.
