Crime and Punishment

Antti Rahikainen (Markku Toikka), a former student behind on the rent for his apartment, is pushed into a murder he cannot undo. Aki Kaurismäki, in his first full-length feature, adapts Dostoevsky's novel and follows the police inquiry as Inspector Pennanen (Esko Nikkari) circles closer. Rahikainen is left holding his guilt and the pressure to confess, a man alone in a cramped room with nobody to talk to.
