“Ever get the feeling you're being played?”

Richard Gaddis (John C. Reilly) is a small-time con man who needs a new partner for the bigger jobs, and he finds one in Rodrigo (Diego Luna), a young crook with a perfect poker face. Their first scheme is to sell a fake Silver Certificate to the currency collector William Hannigan (Peter Mullan). Gregory Jacobs sets the pair moving, but Rodrigo needs the money for his sick father and then falls for Richard's sister, Valerie (Maggie Gyllenhaal).
