“YESTERDAY a Teenage Rebel... TODAY a mad-dog slayer!”

After a fight he thinks ended in murder, teenage Jimmy Wallace (Jack Nicholson) panics and holds a couple hostage. Justus Addiss keeps the crisis small and tight, with Police Lt. Porter (Harry Lauter) working the problem from outside. Jimmy is a scared kid with a gun in his hand, and his fear makes him dangerous to everyone near him.
