Cute Girl

Pan Wenwen (Fong Fei-fei), the daughter of a wealthy man, takes French lessons so she can follow her fiancée to France. In class she meets Gu Dagang (Kenny Bee), a poor student of civil engineering, and Hou Hsiao-hsien, in his first feature, lets the two of them keep crossing paths. Wenwen sits in her French class with her textbook open, and the man beside her has none of the life she is studying for.
