“Someone poisoned Dexter Cornell. He's got to find out who. He's got to find out why. He's got to find out now. In 24 hours, he'll be Dead On Arrival.”

English professor Dexter Cornell (Dennis Quaid) is pulled into a run of murders among the people around him, and he has very little time to find who is behind them. His student Sydney Fuller (Meg Ryan) gives him the only help and comfort he gets. Annabel Jankel and Rocky Morton shoot the Texas locations as a neo-noir, with the urgency of a man whose clock is running down.
