“Sometimes the greatest man you ever meet... is the first one.”

John Tremont (Ted Danson) is an executive who spends his days in meetings and has little to say to his own son, Billy (Ethan Hawke). When a call pulls him out of one, he rushes home to his mother Bette (Olympia Dukakis), who may be dying. Gary David Goldberg keeps the focus on John and his father Jake (Jack Lemmon), whom he has to look after now, and the two men start to know each other.
