Daisy Kenyon (Joan Crawford), a commercial artist in Manhattan, wants to be done with Dan O'Mara (Dana Andrews), the arrogant, successful lawyer she has been seeing while he stays married to Lucille (Ruth Warrick). Then she meets Peter Lapham (Henry Fonda), a single war veteran, and after a hesitant courtship she agrees to marry him, though she is still in love with Dan. Otto Preminger gives her two men and no easy way to tell what she feels for either.
