Damsels in Distress

“For these girls... it's not what you learn, it's whom you educate.”

Violet Wister (Greta Gerwig) has decided to revolutionize life at a grungy East Coast university, starting with the students who are too depressed to leave their rooms. She and her friends Rose and Heather take in the transfer student Lily (Lio Tipton) and offer the sad a program of good hygiene and musical dance numbers. Whit Stillman builds the story around the plain belief that tidy habits and a little tap dancing can mend a broken heart.
