Ruth Ellis (Miranda Richardson) is the last woman Britain ever hanged, and the film starts years earlier, with her living beside a night club with her ten-year-old son, Andy. David Blakeley (Rupert Everett), a young man from an upper-class family, walks in one night, and Mike Newell follows the affair as it turns into an obsession for her. The deeper she holds on, the less he will keep her, and the cost for Ruth is her life.
