Dark Command

(1940)Directed by Raoul Walsh94 minDrama, Romance, Western
“A drama of undying love.”

Bob Seton (John Wayne), a Texan newly arrived in Lawrence, Kansas, takes to the town right away, and to Mary McCloud (Claire Trevor), the banker's daughter. The year is just before the Civil War, and he ends up running for marshal against the schoolteacher William Cantrell (Walter Pidgeon). Raoul Walsh sets the two men against each other in a Territory already split, and Mary stands between the man she's drawn to and the one the town trusts.
