Day of Wrath

In a Danish village in the early 1600s, an old woman named Marte is accused of witchcraft, and the one person who pities her is Anne (Lisbeth Movin), whose own mother was once suspected of the same. Her husband, Pastor Absalon (Thorkild Roose), saved her mother years ago, yet now will not lift a hand for Marte. Carl Theodor Dreyer lets the household settle into silence, the pastor's son Martin (Preben Lerdorff Rye) home again and Anne waiting in the quiet rooms.
