Dead Man Walking

Sister Helen Prejean (Susan Sarandon), a nun who works in a poor neighborhood, answers a letter from Matthew Poncelet (Sean Penn), a death row inmate convicted of murdering a young couple. She agrees to be his spiritual adviser in the days before his execution. Tim Robbins keeps her in the visiting room and at the victims' families' doors, and she keeps showing up, whatever it costs her.
