Death Defying Acts
“Love is inescapable”
Mary McGarvie (Catherine Zeta-Jones) works as a psychic in Britain in 1926, a performer who lives by telling people what they want to hear, with her daughter Benji (Saoirse Ronan) beside her. When Harry Houdini (Guy Pearce) arrives on tour, she sees her chance to con him. Gillian Armstrong builds the film around the two of them, and the closer Mary gets to the trick, the harder it is to say who is deceiving whom.
