Twenty-three days remain on the Death Note case, and L (Kenichi Matsuyama) must work through them without Watari, the partner who has always stood beside him. A new case lands on his desk, and Hideo Nakata follows him through it with the dread of someone who knows the clock is running. Along the way L ends up responsible for Near (Narushi Fukuda) and Maki (Mayuko Fukuda), two people he would never have chosen.
