Katherine Mortenhoe (Romy Schneider) writes novels in a future where disease has been defeated, so her terminal diagnosis makes her a rarity worth broadcasting. A television producer, Vincent Ferriman (Harry Dean Stanton), wants her last days as a reality show, filmed through the eyes of a man with a camera in his head, Roddy (Harvey Keitel). Bertrand Tavernier follows Katherine as she tries to die on her own terms, with everyone watching.
