“Mountainous thrills! Wild adventure! ...plunging them ever deeper into desperate danger !”

Libby Saul (Ida Lupino) is a shy young woman who barely speaks, living in an isolated California farmhouse with her embittered parents, Ellie (Fay Bainter) and Cliff (Henry Hull). Her days change when a fugitive from a chain gang, Barry Burnette (Dane Clark), turns up near the road crew working through the wilderness. Jean Negulesco watches Libby step toward the first person who has ever looked at her, and she does not look away.
