Delusions of Grandeur

(1971)Directed by Gérard Oury108 min · PGComedy, History

Don Salluste de Bazan (Louis de Funès) is the King of Spain's minister, and he collects the people's taxes into his own pocket. They hate him for it, and the Queen finally has him stripped of his post and ordered off to a monastery. Gérard Oury adapts Victor Hugo's Ruy Blas as a costume farce, with Yves Montand as Blaze, the valet standing at Salluste's elbow. Salluste, a man who has never been told no, is not one to take the order quietly.
