“The future isn't big enough for the both of them.”

John Spartan (Sylvester Stallone) is a Los Angeles cop whose reputation for wrecking everything around him gets him frozen in 1996, sentenced alongside the killer Simon Phoenix (Wesley Snipes). Thirty-six years later Phoenix breaks out, and Spartan is thawed to hunt him down. Marco Brambilla sets them loose in a city that has forgotten how to handle violence, and Lt. Lenina Huxley (Sandra Bullock) has to keep up.
