Demon Pond

A traveller (Tsutomu Yamazaki) comes upon a remote village in a drought, where the water has gone and the people wait on the spirits living in a nearby pond. Masahiro Shinoda, working from Izumi Kyōka's 1913 play, puts the lovers Akira (Gō Katō) and Yuri (Tamasaburō Bandō V) at the center of that tangle of myth and magic. The whole town's survival rests with the pond's spirits, and the two lovers sit in the middle of it.
