Gengobe (Katsuo Nakamura), a samurai cast out of the Asano clan, wants one thing: a place as the 48th Ronin among the men plotting against the Shogunate. His servant Sangoro (Juro Kara) scrapes together the 100 ryo that acceptance requires. Toshio Matsumoto adapts a 19th-century kabuki play, and Gengobe learns that the geisha Koman (Yasuko Sanjo), whom he loves, is owed a debt of exactly 100 ryo.
