Departures

“The gift of last memories.”

The ad says travel, so Daigo Kobayashi (Masahiro Motoki), a cellist whose orchestra has just let him go, answers it. The job turns out to be with Ikuei Sasaki (Tsutomu Yamazaki), who prepares the dead for their coffins. Yojiro Takita follows Daigo through the small hometown he moved back to, where his wife Mika (Ryoko Hirosue) and his neighbors may turn from him once they learn what he does.
