Despair

(1978)Directed by Rainer Werner Fassbinder117 minDrama, Thriller
“A hysterical comedy”

In Berlin in 1930, the chocolate manufacturer Hermann Hermann (Dirk Bogarde) snaps at his workers and rivals a little more each day. Then he meets Felix Weber (Klaus Löwitsch), a vagrant who looks exactly like him, and Hermann starts planning a way out of his own life. Fassbinder's film, adapted from Nabokov, is about a man so sure of his own mind that he cannot see what is happening to it.
