Destry Rides Again

(1939)Directed by George Marshall94 minWestern, Comedy
“They make the fighting sinful west blaze into action before your eyes!”

Bottleneck is a wide-open Western town where Kent (Brian Donlevy) runs things his own way, and nobody expects much from the new deputy who rides in. Tom Destry (James Stewart) is the son of a legendary lawman, but he won't wear a gun, and the saloon crowd laughs him out loud. George Marshall sets him against Frenchy (Marlene Dietrich), the singer who rules the saloon floor, and their sparring is where the film finds its warmth.
