Detachment

Henry Barthes (Adrien Brody) is a substitute teacher who moves from school to school, never staying long enough to know anyone's name for good. Over three weeks at one failing high school, he gives his students real attention while keeping every adult, from Principal Carol Dearden (Marcia Gay Harden) to his colleagues, at arm's length. Tony Kaye films the classrooms and corridors as though the building itself were watching him.
