“The love story of a man whose wife was more woman than angel!”

Det. James McLeod (Kirk Douglas) starts his shift at a police squad room where a young petty embezzler, a pair of burglars and a naive shoplifter are already waiting to be booked. William Wyler keeps the whole day inside the precinct, letting Lou Brody (William Bendix) and the other detectives move through it with their paperwork and phones. McLeod believes the law has no room for mercy, and the day tests him on exactly that.
