The Great Vorelli (Bryant Haliday) is a stage hypnotist and ventriloquist whose act centers on Hugo, a dummy that seems far too alive. Lindsay Shonteff follows reporter Mark English (William Sylvester) as he starts digging into the act, while Vorelli turns his attention to the heiress Marianne Horn (Yvonne Romain) and her millions. Underneath the stagecraft is a plain matter of control, one person's will pressed over another's until nothing of her own is left.
