Devils on the Doorstep

“Comedy to carnage, in one remote village.”

A knock comes in the night, and Ma Dasan (Jiang Wen), a peasant in an occupied Chinese village, finds two bound sacks left at his door, a Japanese soldier and his interpreter, with an order to keep them alive until New Year. The village leaders gather to decide what to do with their unwanted guests. The vicious Kosaburo Hanaya (Teruyuki Kagawa) and the frightened translator are kept in Ma's house, and the days pass between captors and captives.
