Dheepan

“When the war continues to rage in your heart and mind”

Dheepan (Antonythasan Jesuthasan) is a former soldier who escapes the civil war in Sri Lanka by joining a woman and a young girl he has never met, passing the three of them off as a family. Yalini (Kalieaswari Srinivasan) and Illayaal (Claudine Vinasithamby) are his cover, and they are placed on a troubled housing estate outside Paris. Jacques Audiard shoots the estate at close range, and you feel the cramped stairwells and the noise through the walls.
