The river runs foul by a chemical factory, and when every appeal to stop the waste fails, the villagers send Arumugam (Vikram), a kind and uneducated man, to Chennai to find their minister. Dharani sends him off with his childhood friend Eeswari (Jyothika) and her grandmother, and they bunk with Arumugam's friend and his gang. Eeswari has known him since they were children, and she is the one person who sees what the village sees in him.
