“See it, be amazed at it, but...BE QUIET ABOUT IT!”

Christina Delassalle (Véra Clouzot) and Nicole Horner (Simone Signoret) plan to murder Michel (Paul Meurisse), the cruel headmaster of a boarding school, who is wife to one and lover to the other. Clouzot lets the odd occurrences begin only after the body has vanished. Neither woman fully trusts the other, but the one who frightens her the most is the one standing beside her.
