Diamonds of the Night

In 1943, two Jewish boys jump from a train carrying them from one concentration camp to another, and run into the woods. Jan Němec, in his first feature, stays close on their feet and breath, with almost no dialogue, as The First (Ladislav Janský) and The Second (Antonín Kumbera) go on foot, starving, with the Nazis somewhere behind them. Every hour in the open is one more hour they might be found, and each stranger could decide whether they live.
