Diary of a Chambermaid

Céléstine (Jeanne Moreau), a chambermaid up from Paris, takes a post at a provincial estate and means to put up with its household only as long as the wages last. Then a young girl is found raped and murdered, and she decides the groundskeeper Joseph (Georges Géret) is the one who did it, and stays to prove it. Buñuel keeps the camera plain and close to the floorboards, with little of the surrealism he is known for.
