Diary of a Country Priest

(1951)Directed by Robert Bresson115 minDrama
“A priest of humble origin, lost in the maze of worldiness”

Nobody in Ambricourt will say why they have no use for their new priest. He is young and sickly (Claude Laydu), newly arrived in a northern French village, and the parish takes against his austere manner and keeps its distance. Robert Bresson, adapting the Bernanos novel, keeps the camera close on Laydu's face and lets a diary carry the story.
