Diary of a Shinjuku Thief

Torio Okanoue (Tadanori Yokoo) steals books from a Shinjuku shop until the clerk, Umeko Suzuki (Rie Yokoyama), catches him and doesn't call the police. Nagisa Ōshima follows the two of them through the district, and a kabuki actor drifts into their orbit. Umeko and Torio keep moving through Shinjuku's streets and bookshop aisles, and the film stays with them there.
