The control tower at Washington Dulles has gone dark on a snowy Christmas Eve, and the pilots circling overhead can no longer reach anyone on the ground. John McClane (Bruce Willis), an off-duty cop waiting on the ground for his wife's flight, is the one man who sees it coming. Renny Harlin keeps the story on the single night, and Holly (Bonnie Bedelia) is still in the air, trusting him to get her down.
