Disgrace

David Lurie (John Malkovich) is a professor of English in post-apartheid South Africa, a man who has always taken what he wanted until an affair with a student, Melanie Isaacs (Antoinette Engel), costs him his position. He leaves for the Eastern Cape farm of his daughter Lucy (Jessica Haines), where he finds a country he barely knows. Steve Jacobs, adapting J. M. Coetzee's novel, films the landscape with a patience that lets Lurie's unease go unanswered.
