Disraeli

(1929)Directed by Alfred E. Green90 minDrama, History
“Disraeli – Lover and Leader!”

Someone is working against Britain's purchase of the Suez Canal, and Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli (George Arliss) has to find out who before the money can be raised. Russian agents are one threat, and a plot among his own countrymen at home is another. Alfred E. Green's film, adapted from a 1911 play, treats politics as a private contest of wit between clever people in fine rooms.
