Captain Quincy Wyatt (Gary Cooper) is an army officer in 1840s Florida who gets sent to wipe out a fort held by gunrunners, and he does it. The way home runs back through the Everglades, with Judy Beckett (Mari Aldon) and the other rescued captives in tow and a large band of Seminoles on their trail. Raoul Walsh keeps the column moving, and the swamp itself becomes the enemy the soldiers can't outwalk.
