Distant Thunder
Planes pass over the Bengal countryside in 1943, and in one village the new Brahmin, Gangacharan (Soumitra Chatterjee), takes on his duties as teacher and organizer of religious events. A famine is under way, and as food runs short he tries to hold on to his comfortable position, while his generous wife Ananga (Bobita) works to help the neighbors. Satyajit Ray, shooting in colour for the first time, films the green fields and the planes passing over them.
