Peter La Fleur (Vince Vaughn) runs a struggling gym in Las Vegas that's about to be swallowed by a corporate fitness chain owned by the ruthless White Goodman (Ben Stiller). To save it, Peter assembles a ragtag team of misfits and enters them in a national dodgeball tournament, coached by the eccentric Patches O'Houlihan (Rip Torn). If they don't win, the gym disappears.
