Dog Star Man
Winter on a snow-covered mountain, and a bearded woodsman starts to climb with his dog, an axe, and a tree he means to chop down. Stan Brakhage layers his footage until the climb is crowded with images of a woman, a child, the natural world and the cosmos, cut together without any spoken word. Every step up the slope takes the woodsman further into those visions, and the tree waits at the top.
