Eleven episodes follow ordinary people in eastern Ukraine, among them a Town Mayor (Hryhoriy Masliuk), a Plump-faced Woman (Tamara Yatsenko) and a Woman in Blue (Liudmyla Smorodina), each one living inside a war that began in 2014. Sergei Loznitsa links the scenes by hand-off, so a minor figure in one becomes the center of the next. The people here are surviving, and the film shows how easily violence passes for peace and propaganda for the only truth left.
