Donkey Skin

(1970)Directed by Jacques Demy90 minFantasy, Comedy, Music, Romance
“The skin of an animal hid her captivating beauty that only a prince could discover!”

A dying queen makes the king promise to marry only a woman more beautiful than herself, and the one he finds is their daughter, the Princess (Catherine Deneuve). The Fairy (Delphine Seyrig) tells her to run and hide inside the skin of the king's donkey. Demy sets the songs of Michel Legrand against a Perrault tale, and the Princess walks off wearing the donkey's hide.
