New York in the late 1970s, and FBI agent Joseph Pistone (Johnny Depp) goes under as Donnie Brasco, a jewel thief working his way into the Mafia. Lefty Ruggiero (Al Pacino), an aging, overlooked mobster, takes him in and vouches for him. Mike Newell makes the stakes plain: the closer Donnie gets to the men who trust him, the less of his own life he has left to go home to.
