“28 days, 6 hours, 42 minutes, 12 seconds... that is when the world will end.”

Donnie Darko (Jake Gyllenhaal), a troubled teenager in suburban Illinois, sleepwalks away from a jet engine that crashes through his bedroom. Frank (James Duval), a figure in a rotting rabbit suit, tells him the world will end in twenty-eight days. Richard Kelly follows Donnie through October 1988 as he grows certain that survival sometimes means accepting loss, and that some people matter more than others.
