Doubt

(2008)Directed by John Patrick Shanley104 min · PG-13Drama
“There are no simple truths.”

In 1964, St. Nicholas, a Catholic school in the Bronx, runs on rules, and Sister Aloysius Beauvier (Meryl Streep) enforces every one of them. When young Sister James (Amy Adams) mentions how warmly the new priest, Father Brendan Flynn (Philip Seymour Hoffman), treats a troubled student, Aloysius starts to suspect him. John Patrick Shanley, adapting his own play, sets the nun and the priest against each other, each sure of what the other is.
