Down and Out in Beverly Hills

“See what happens when a dirty bum meets the filthy rich.”

In 1986 Beverly Hills, Dave Whiteman (Richard Dreyfuss) and his wife Barbara (Bette Midler) live in a big house with a swimming pool and a good deal of unspoken trouble. One afternoon a vagrant named Jerry Baskin (Nick Nolte) walks into that pool to drown himself, and Dave pulls him out. Paul Mazursky, adapting Renoir's 1932 film, lets the Whitemans' comfortable routines run into a stranger who has none.
