“How fast must a man go to get from where he's at?”

David Chappellet (Robert Redford) joins the U.S. Ski Team in Europe and starts breaking records, brushing off the teamwork that coach Eugene Claire (Gene Hackman) keeps pushing. Michael Ritchie, in his first film as director, follows the circuit toward the Olympics. Chappellet stands at the top of the course, goggles down, his skis against the snow.
