Downtown '81

Jean (Jean-Michel Basquiat) has been evicted, and he spends a day in downtown Manhattan carrying a painting he hopes to sell for the rent. Edo Bertoglio shot it in 1980 and 1981, and Jean walks from one friend to the next while musicians such as James Chance and Walter Steding play to the room. Debbie Harry turns up as a Fairy Godmother, since the film is a city fairy tale about getting by on whatever you have made.
